Tyler D Johnson is based in Denver, Colorado and works in conservation for The Nature Conservancy. He previously worked as a reporter, editor, critic, and photographer for newspapers in North Carolina, Texas, and Colorado and wrote as a freelancer for the New York Times Book Review, Men's Journal, Saveur, Field & Stream, Monocle, and IRIN (a news service focused on international development issues). He lived in Southern Africa for nearly six years, working as a journalist and in the public health sector and traveled in Botswana, South Africa, Mozambique, Namibia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania, and Kenya.
